Berwick Rangers 3 Stenhousemuir 0

A great all-round display of skill and commitment enabled Berwick to overcome the challenge at table-topping Stenhousemuir.

With leading scorers Paul McGrillon and Ian Diack absent, the visitors' woes were compounded when Colin Cramb limped off and near the end Joe McAlpine was sent off after two bookings in two minutes.

Three high-quality goals stretched impressive Berwick's winning sequence to sixth. A superb move started at the edge of his own penalty area by Dave Murie and carried on by Kevin McLeish and Ian Little ended with Sean Paliczka scoring his first for the club.

Kevin Haynes made it two, sliding home from close range after Mark Cowan headed down a McLeish corner. Danny Swanson came on as a substitute and he wrapped it up by hammering the ball home after a ferocious shot from Ian Little hit the post and rebounded to him.

Tommy Sinclair missed a great chance for Stenhousemuir, shooting wide from close range, but Berwick might have doubled the score as the irrepressible Haynes fired in a succession of shots from every angle.

Haynes was guilty of squandering a chance, lobbing wide with the goal at his mercy in a breakaway raid then accidentally stood on the ball with the target in his sight.

And he should certainly have netted as Rangers continued to rip the Stennie defence open in the second half, but he lobbed the ball marginally over with only ex-Berwick keeper Willie McCulloch to beat before watching another effort shave a post.
