Shire were never expected to be a match for their top of the table neighbours Stenhousemuir who built up a healthy three-goal lead by the interval.

The opener arrived after only 10 minutes following a free-kick taken by John-Paul McBride. The ball entered the box and was stopped by Shire's Marc McKenzie who fell while attempting a block and gifted a free strike to Tommy Sinclair.

Shire replied with a quickly taken free-kick by Paul Tyrrell which Chris Fahey turned aside for a corner. David Templeton added the visitors' second after neatly rounding his marker and Colin Cramb did exactly the same to score the third just before the half-time whistle.

The visitors' goal feast continued in the second half with Templeton collecting his second of the evening with another bit of individual skill preceding a clinical finish.

Cramb scored Stenhousemuir's fifth with an intelligent lob over the advancing keeper. Substitute Iain Diack took the visitors' tally to six with a fierce 30-yard drive and he also doubled his personal tally in injury-time following service from man of the match Templeton.

It wasn't quite all one-way traffic despite the scoreline but Shire's forwards had little or nothing to feed on all night.
