Elgin City went into today's game against Stenhousemuir full of confidence after last week's 1-0 win at Hamden against Queens Park.

Elgin accomplished back to back wins in the league for the first time since 2002 and looked to make it three in a row for only the second time in their short spell in the Scottish League.

In the second minute Stenhousemuir was first to second when Elgin failed to clear a cross only to see the ball knock back into the box and a Steve Kerrigan effort cleared off the line by James McKenzie.

Elgin finally carved out an opportunity on the 18th minute when Ian Harty slipped but Phil Reid shot wide when it was easier to score.

Elgin had numerous opportunities to score and the best chance of the first half fell to Paul Kaczan after an Andy Roddie free-kick fell to him ten yards out, with the goal gaping he somehow managed to shoot wide.

Stenhousemuir went up the other end and some great individual play by Paul McGrillen opened up the Elgin defence and produced a fine save out of Kieron Renton from 18 yards.

Just after the break Elgin were fortunate when Stenhousemuir missed a good opportunity after good overlapping play by Keith Knox, but his cut-back was lashed well over by McGrillen.

On the hours Elgin finally broke through when Paul Murphy failed to clear the ball enabling Harty to shield the ball and create the chance for Reid to run on and smash the ball to the keeper's right and score his first senior goal.

With about ten minutes remaining the ball went into the box from Kerrigan and found Lee Collins diving in to poke the ball past Renton from 12 yards to equalize.

After Elgin were pegged back it was Stenhousemuir who forced the game and should have won it themselves.
