Stenhousemuir extended their lead to five points at the top of the Scottish Third Division after beating their closest rivals Cowdenbeath on a sand-covered Ochilview pitch.

The Warriors opened the scoring in the ninth minute through top league scorer Colin Cramb. He and John-Paul McBride combined to create an opening before Cramb toe-poked home as he took advantage of some poor defending by Cowdenbeath..

They extended their lead in the 37th minute when McBride played a free-kick into the box and Cramb headed the ball on to Jim Mercer, who fired into the bottom corner.

The Fife side did have the ball in the net on the half hour when Ryan McCallum bundled the ball home, and although referee Steve O'Reilly originally gave the goal it was disallowed after his assistant, Andrew Seymour, spotted an infringement.

In the second half Cowdenbeath upped the tempo in their efforts as they tried to claw their way back into the game. Substitute Iain Mauchlen came closest to opening their account with a couple of efforts that whistled just over the bar.

The Warriors weathered the storm, however, and were fairly comfortable winners by the end of the game as Cowden ran out of ideas.
