Stenhousemuir overcame a tentative start to run out 4-0 victors against an out of sorts Elgin City.

Although the Warriors eventually dominated, in the early stages the game looked to be heading for a goalless draw as both sides struggled to play any worthwhile football.

The fact that the home side scored after 32 minutes with their first attack on any note said much about the first half-hour's play.

David McInally's corner picked out Lee Collins 20 yards out and his drive was parried by Kieron Renton, but Joe Savage reacted first and fired the loose ball under Renton and into the far corner of the net.

With the weather deteriorating Elgin were up against the elements during the second half and when John-Paul McBride scored from just inside the D with one of his trademark free-kicks the game effectively ended as a contest.

Savage then scored his second when he ran on to a threaded Paul Murphy pass to make it 3-0.

Murphy was unlucky not to make it four when he headed a Martin Lauchlan cross against the post before veteran Keith Knox showed him how it was done, when the 40-year-old headed home a McInally cross as Elgin's capitulation was completed.
