Stenhousemui's manager Des McKeown was elated with his team's performance in this 5-0 victory. He rated it as the best since he took over at the club.

In the first ten minutes of the game Montrose tested the Stenhousemuir rearguard and found it to be a fairly solid defence. As time progressd, however, the home midfield began to dominate. Montrose had no answer to this and were pushed further and further back towards their defence.

It came as no surprise when the Warriors took the lead through Gareth Hutchison who headed home a Kevin McLeish corner. Any chance of a fightback by Montrose was ended just after half time when he scored his second after poor defending let him in on goal and he made no mistake with the finish.

John Baird scored just after the hour mark after his movement took him away from his marker and he swivelled and turned before shooting high into the net. Two minutes later he scored again after beating the offside trap.

Both scorers were then replaced but Montrose's torment did not end there as keeper Andy Reid was sent off for a foul on David Templeton and Kevin McLeish converted the spot-kick as Stenhousemuir went nap.
