Stenhousemuir went into this game with a 100 per cent league record so far, and after this comprehensive 6-1 victory they remain at the top of the first division.

The Warriors opened the scoring in the 43rd second when the Shire were caught cold and Paul McGrillen was allowed to shoot home from 10 yards.

The home side extended their lead in the seventh minute when Brian Gordon handled a Jim Mercer cross and McGrillen converted the penalty.

At this stage it looked as if the Warriors would run out easy winners, but the Shire gave themselves a lifeline when Iain Diack rifled home a shot from 30 yards which gave home custodian William McCulloch no chance.

The second half started with Stenhousemuir creating several chances to extend their lead, but they were thwarted by some superb goalkeeping from Derek Jackson.

Eventually they made their pressure count when Mercer headed home a McGrillen cross in the 76th minute. McGrillen and Mercer added two more, and with time running out, substitute Colin Cramb made it 6 -1 for the home side.
